Muslim Community Radio, 2MFM Won Top Accolade;  Tony Staley Award

 Congratulations to 2MFM the Muslim Community Radio 92.1 who was awarded the prestigious ‘Tony Staley Award’ which is the highest accolade awarded to a community radio station in Australia by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA), at a Gala Dinner on Saturday 10th November 2018. The Dinner was held on Queensland’s Gold Coast and was attended by a number of prominent media figures and representatives of community radio stations in Australia.

The ‘Tony Staley’ Award for Excellence in Community Broadcasting was awarded to the 2MFM Muslim Community Radio 92.1FM for demonstrating a clear vision and strategy whose management used best governance practices; and in recognition of its achievements in promoting the values of diversity, access and independence, and of its initiatives and activities which have clear benefits for the community and the community broadcasting sector as a whole. 

The award was received by 2MFM’’s Programs Manager; Mrs Faten El Dana OAM.  In her speech Mrs El Dana thanked the CBAA for recognising 2MFM’s vision, and the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) for their sponsorship.  She also spoke passionately about the hard work she has put in over the years to help migrants, especially Muslim Women, to access services they are in dire need for.  Faten concluded her speech by recognising the importance of 2MFM in bringing to the listeners the many successful community initiatives, media campaigns and other worthy projects that she led

The award attracted the attention of Shaoquett Moselmane MLC.  On Wednesday 12th December 2018, he presented Mrs El Dana and the staff of 2MFM with a certificate of a motion in NSW Parliament, congratulating them for the award saying: “Congratulations to all at 2FMF radio station.”

The Staff and Management of 2FMF are extremely proud to have received this award and together they will endeavour to continue to operate according to the policy of moderation and openness that has been emphasised since 2MFM’s inception. This policy has served the Muslim Community Radio well and will help ensure that they continue to serve the needs of the culturally and linguistically diverse listeners that tune in to 2MFM.

The Staff and Management also extend their sincere thanks to the CBAA for recognizing the important role the Muslim Community Radio plays in the community radio broadcasting sector.  They also acknowledge and thank the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) for sponsoring the award.
