Written by on 13 December 2018

Mawlid Celebrations continue at the first ever Multicultural Mawlid Festival in Sydney

Over two days under the glorious summer sunshine, something very special unfolded in the heart of multicultural Bankstown.

The Australian Muslim community joyfully joined together over the weekend under the umbrella of ‘Muhammad, a guide and more for every era’ to continue their mawlid commemorations at the first ever Mawlid festival to hit the city of Sydney.

The two-day festival saw thousands of festival goers flocking to Paul Keating Park in Bankstown on the 8th and 9th of December 2018 to enjoy and participate in the event which primarily involved showcasing and expressing joy at the birth of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.

The festival featured a wide array of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy including those made available by the 5th ICPA Bankstown Scouts Group, in addition to the variety of rides for the kids, jumping castles and face painting activities.

The 2MFM Kids Show presenters also presented highly engaging live shows across the two days on the grounds of Paul Keating Park which children excitedly participated in.

The festival also bolstered a vast variety of stalls for the entertainment and indulgence of festival goers.

On Saturday, internationally renowned chanter, Hajj Muhammad El-Kheir delivered an exceptional live rendition with the ICPA chanting band. Then on Sunday, the Iraqi, Sudanese, Pakistani and youth chanting groups delivered sensational performances that manifested an expression of love and devotion to Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him

2MFM, Muslim Community radio also participated in the festival and provided a live coverage of the event. 2MFM also engaged with the community by obtaining listener feedback, promoting their on-air programs and activities and promoting their wonderful productions which were publicly made available for purchase, and encouraging volunteer and membership registration.

The festival concluded by the segment which has been waited for by many of the 2MFM listeners who participated in our quiz shows throughout the Mawlid season.  The 2MFM program Manager, Mrs Faten El Dana OAM presented the winners with the giveaways and commended them for their continuous interaction with their radio station through  the airwaves of 2mfm and the grounds of the festival.

The festival served as a great opportunity to teach the community about what Islam is about and the true message brought and taught by the prophet peace be upon him.

The Multicultural Mawlid Festival Committee truly deserve our heartiest congratulations and recognition for organising such a wonderful festival in celebration of prophet Muhammad’s birth.
